The menu offers classic diner eats, from standard burger options to all-day breakfasts, featuring the Hangover Five Alarm Three-Egg Omelette with cheddar and chili, and the Elvis Scramble with chorizo, peppers and Monterey Jack. Tommy's Joynt  Every wood-paneled angle inside is covered with quirky memorabilia--from a mannequin on skis to cupcake tins hanging from the ceiling. Patrons order at the counter and sit down at long tables with checkered tablecloths. Roast beef, turkey, corned beef and ham are offered as sandwiches or as generous platters with sides such as stuffing, mashed potatoes and pickles. Max's Opera Cafe  This New York-inspired restaurant features singing waiters, many of whom are training for the stage at the nearby San Francisco Opera House. The fledgling vocalists lend a festive, entertaining air to the bustling dining room, which draws an eclectic assortment of out-of-towners and pre-theater diners. The straightforward deli menu features maximum portions--sandwiches stacked high with corned beef and pastrami, overflowing potted brisket of beef and big gooey desserts and sundaes. Ruth's Chris Steak House  This offshoot of a popular New Orleans hangout for politicians features decor of dark woods and comfortable booths, with a separate bar scene. Choice cuts of custom-aged beef arrive in sizzling butter on 500-degree plates. The menu also offers chicken, pork and seafood entrees along with Creole appetizers like shrimp remoulade. Family-style sides include gargantuan onion rings, creamed spinach and various styles of potatoes. Traditional homemade desserts like cheesecake and bread pudding conclude the meal. Chevy's Fresh Mex  With friendly servers and goofy gimmicks, Chevys is a big draw for families and groups looking for a fun, affordable night out. A full bar and a dozen different margaritas attract a happy hour crowd, and a tortilla machine is often surrounded by children watching the dough-to-tortilla transformation. Fajitas, a house specialty, are available with nearly a dozen different fillings, from mesquite-grilled chicken to portobello mushrooms and asparagus. Desserts include flan and sopaipillas. Fino Restaurant  Fino is the perfect place to duck into after a brutal day of shopping and fighting the hordes downtown. The tranquil interior of beige walls, soft lighting, warm mahogany, and cozy fireplace is surprisingly accessible only two blocks from Union Square. The Italian menu with a California spin offers authentic, thin-crust appetizer pizzas, antipasti, fresh seafood, grilled meats, and contadinas, a unique stir-fry of vegetables, pasta, and choice of seafood, sausage or chicken. Go to Fino for a place that dishes up an Italian cuisine. California Pizza Kitchen  Founded in Beverly Hills in 1985, these eateries with the trademark yellow, black and white color scheme have spread nationwide. The decor consists of simple wood and glass with roomy black leather booths. The thin-crust pizzas come with innovative toppings from Asia, Latin America and the Southwest; signature pizzas like the Original BBQ Chicken and Jamaican Jerk Chicken compete with old standbys like pepperoni and traditional cheese. Pastas, salads, soups and sandwiches round out the menu. Harris'  For nearly a century, the landmark address of 2100 Van Ness Avenue has hosted some of the finest meals on the West Coast. When Harris? Restaurant opened in 1984, in the old location of Grisons, it continued the rich tradition of luxurious dining in a comfortable sophisticated environment. In fact, Harris? was ranked as one of the nation?s Top 10 Steak houses by the Wine Spectator. Kyoto Japanese
